4x4 Fun Day 2007

The eighth annual Summerhill 4x4 Family and Fun day was held on Saturday 9 June 2007 outside Hazyview and was once again a huge success.

The parents of Summerhill Prep School are the proud hosts of this day, and thank Natie and Charmaine van Staden and Tom and Ray Vorster for the use of the beautiful venue, situated on the banks of the Sabie river under the canopy of huge indigenous trees.

A top record of 50 4x4 offroad competitors entered this year, and offered excellent spectating on all eight obstacles, built by Bruce McQueen. The ladies were offered a chance to strutt their stuff on obstacle no 3, and spectators were offered many new tricks in the book of female driving skills- and technique!

Besides the 4x4 competition a host of exhibitors and live music entertained the 1800 spectators to this event. All the big names of the auto industry had their latest models on display, and a flea market and toy stand offered hours of shopping pleasure.

The children were entertained by the giant slide, jumping castles, clowns on stilts, balloon art, puppet shows, face painting, temporary tattoos and hair colouring.

The highlight of the children’s activities was the cake icing competition, were six teams of children were each handed a slab of sponge cake, icing and tons of sweets, to create their own 4x4 masterpiece of a cake.

Umbhaba Lodge sponsored the ingredients and prizes for the cake icing competition, we thank them for their support. The suikerkaskenades in the sun was great fun for children of all age groups, as well as the BMX competition.

Ice cold draught beer was served in the Windhoek Beertent, and Hein’s famous pregos and other delicacies were served to fill the tummies. Pancakes and coffee was on sale throughout the day, as well as other delicacies like cakes, biltong and pickles.

A full line up of local artists entertained the Windhoek Beertent throughout the day, including our local teen band “Novation” from Sabie, Aggi and the Garage Band and Viana, all who rocked the crowd. An auction was held of a collectable vintage 5 L bottle of fine red wine, signed by Springbok Tiaan Strauss, sponsored by Stellenrust Wine Estate

We thank the competitors for their support – without you there would have been no 4x4 day! The day was rounded off with a wonderful Fire Show presented by Cosmic Storm and a Lazer Show presented by Lazer X.

The dance floor was alive and kicking – thanks to DJ Robin, who did a splendid job of getting young and old on the dance floor.

The parents and children of Summerhill School thank the surrounding community for their continuous support with our fundraising day, without the parents and all the generous donations and complimentary services this day would not have been possible.

The funds raised from this event will be applied in building a computer centre, admin block, and upgrade our sport- and preschool facilities on the school premises.

Summerhill School celebrates its tenth year of existence this year, and we are proud of our school’s achievements in the past ten years. We look forward to return excellent service to our community by teaching and equipping our pupils, the leaders of the future, with the necessary skills to succeed in life.
